Iannetta starting to rediscover stroke

TORONTO -- Monday was the kind of day Chris Iannetta had been longing for.

It ended in a 10-6 loss to the Blue Jays, but it featured three hits for the Angels' struggling catcher -- a line-drive double into the right-center-field gap, a line-drive double down the left-field line and a line-drive homer to left-center field.

"I knew I wasn't going to go the whole season without hitting," Iannetta said. "I knew it was only a matter of time."

Iannetta now has five hits in his last two starts, raising his batting average from .101 to .156. He went 2-for-4 while driving in the tying run in Baltimore on Saturday, then hit the ball with true authority for the first time all year in the opener of a four-game series at Rogers Centre.

Iannetta believes his struggles -- struggles that caused him to lose playing time to a young Carlos Perez -- are finally behind him.

"I could see things starting to go my way," Iannetta said. "Normally it starts with walks, but I'm not going to walk if I'm not swinging. There's no fear to come over the plate if I'm not going to do anything with it. Guys are coming right at me, and I wasn't able to put it in play. Now it's getting a little better, so we'll see. I'm seeing it well. That's all that matters."
