In mini slump, Bogaerts held out of starting lineup

BOSTON -- For a while, Xander Bogaerts was the hottest hitter the Red Sox had. Of late, he has cooled off with the rest of the team.

Following another late night of travel, Bogaerts was given a rest for Thursday's game against the Indians. Brock Holt, who has played everywhere of late, moved to third base.

Bogaerts went 0-for-16 in his last four games.

"Feel like over the last four or five games, you can see maybe a little fatigue and some at-bats that have been uncharacteristic for him -- some early-pitch outs, which is not the norm," manager John Farrell said. "I just feel he can benefit from a day down."

In typical Bogaerts fashion, he is keeping an even demeanor during the short slump.

"I'm human," Bogaerts said after Wednesday's game. "We all make mistakes. We all struggle. We all go through tough stretches. I'm going to be fine. Sit back, relax and enjoy. I'll be fine."

Bogaerts had started the previous 31 games dating back to May 6 before being out of the lineup on Thursday. This marked just the fourth of Boston's 66 games that Bogaerts didn't start.
