Indians Promote OF Jerry Sands from AAA; Tomlin Activated from D.L.

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the Major League roster:

Selected the contract of OF JERRY SANDS (#40) from the AAA Columbus Clippers.

Activated RHP JOSH TOMLIN from the 60-day Disabled List and optioned him to AAA Columbus

Outrighted RHP TORU MURATA off the 40-man roster on to the AAA Columbus roster.

Optioned OF ABRAHAM ALMONTE to AAA Columbus.

Sands, 27, has spent most of the season in AAA Columbus, hitting .287 (64-223) with 12 doubles, 1 triple, 14 home runs and 46 RBI in 66 games (.409/.538/.948). He is currently tied for 7th in the International League in home runs (14), tied for 6th in walks (45) and is just shy of the requisite number of plate appearances to be leading the circuit in slugging pct. (.538) and OPS(.948). He is hitting .309 (17-55, 3HR, .970OPS) off LHP during his time at Triple-A and is hitting .395 (17-43) with 11 runs, 4 2B, 1 HR & 10 RBI in 13 second half games (.1.049OPS). He has enjoyed two stints in Cleveland this year (4/10-28, 5/28-30), hitting .375 (9-24) with 2 2B, 1HR & 6 RBI in 10 games with a .421 (7-19) mark against left-handed pitching.
