Indians Sign RHP Brett Myers

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed free agent RHP BRETT MYERS to a Major League contract for the 2013 season with a club option for 2014.

Myers owns a career Major League record of 97-93 with 40 saves and a 4.20 ERA in 377 games/249 starts (12CG, 1688.2IP, 1696H, 788ER, 551BB, 1367K) over 11 big league seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox since debuting in 2002. He has made four Opening Day starts in his career, most recently in 2011 with Houston (also 2007-09 with Phillies), has recorded double-digit win seasons six times and topped the 200.0-inning plateau during three campaigns.  He recently eclipsed the 200.0-inning barrier with Houston in both 2010 and ‘11, going 14-8 with a 3.14 ERA (career-high 223.2IP, 212H, 78ER, 180K) in 2010 and finished 10th in the NL Cy Young voting.

The Jacksonville, FL native split the 2012 season between Houston and the Chicago White Sox, recording a combined ERA of 3.31 (65.1IP, 65H, 24ER, 15BB, 41K) and 19 saves over a career-high 70 relief appearances.  After being acquired by the White Sox at the trade deadline (July 21), he recorded 8 holds and an ERA of 3.12 (35G, 34.2IP, 30H, 12ER, .238AVG) over the first 35 games of his American League career.  He began his pro career out of high school in 1999 after being selected by Philadelphia in the first round (12th overall) of the June draft.
