Jackie Day to feature statue, Negro Leagues player

Phillies to honor Robinson, bring back member of Philadelphia Stars

PHILADELPHIA -- Though it was postponed a day by rain, the Phillies have several things planned to honor Jackie Robinson on Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park.

"As far as diversity is concerned, there's nobody who has had more of an impact on the game than Jackie Robinson," Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "His perseverance, his guts. Not just for African-American players, but Latin-American players and players of color. Unfortunately, those were the times we lived in then, but we'll never live them again."

Negro Leagues player Mahlon Duckett, who played for the Philadelphia Stars, will be honored on the field, receiving a gift from players. The Tuskegee Airmen will serve as honor guard.

Other events or acknowledgments include:

• "I Am 42" video will be played on PhanaVision.

• Video of the making of the Jackie Robinson statue, which will be displayed in Ashburn Alley.

• Jackie Robinson statue will be located by the left-field gate on Ashburn Alley.

• Meet and greet with Duckett in the Hall of Fame Club by the Jackie Robinson display. Duckett will be available from 5:45-6:15 p.m. ET.
