Jankowski, Middlebrooks keep El Paso hot

Class A Tri-City climbs to top of Northwest League

Center fielder Travis Jankowski continued his torrid start with Triple-A El Paso Saturday night, going 3-for-6 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored as the Chihuahuas scored a 10-8 win at Salt Lake to extend their winning streak to five straight games (52-48).

Jankowski, 24, the 44th overall pick selected in the 2012 draft, is 8-for-16 since being promoted to the Chihuahuas from Double-A San Antonio with three doubles, two steals, four runs scored and five RBIs. He had been hitting .326 with a .399 on-base percentage with the Missions.

Jankowski's performance was not the only notable one for the Chihuahuas.

-- Third baseman Will Middlebrooks hit his first homer since being optioned to El Paso and was also 3-for-6 with two RBIs. Heis 4-for-11 in three games with the Chihuahuas.

-- Right-hander Brandon Morrow made his first rehab start with El Paso and allowed two runs on three hits and a walk with a strikeout in 2 1/3 innings. Morrow formed a battery with rehabbing Padres catcher Tim Federowicz.

Right fielder Rymer Liriano (.272) had his 18th double and his eighth homer in five at-bats and scored two runs. Left fielder Tommy Medica (.259) was 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. First baseman Jason Hagerty (.350) was 2-for-3 with a walk, a RBI and a run scored. Designated hitter Cody Decker (.265) was 1-for-3 with two walks, a RBI and a run.

Right-hander Bryan Rodriguez (1-1, 9.39 earned run average) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk with a strikeout in 2 2/3 innings to pick up the win.

Right-hander Nick Vincent (4.28) allowed a hit and a walk with three strikeouts in two scoreless innings. Right-hander Jerry Sullivan (3.51) gave up three runs on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. Left-hander Frank Garces (1.59) gave up a hit with a strikeout in one-third of an inning to get his second save.

AROUND THE FARM:

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (42-57): MIDLAND 9, Missions 1 - 1B Duanel Jones (.249) was 2-for-4 with his fifth homer. 3B Diego Goris (.261) was 2-for-4. C Griff Erickson (.211) was 2-for-3. Starting RHP Dennis O'Grady (3-3, 4.72 ERA) gave up eight runs (six earned) on nine hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings. LHP Brandon Alger (4.25) allowed four hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 3 1/3 scoreless innings. RHP Adam Cimber (3.65) allowed a hit in two otherwise perfect innings.

HIGH SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (38-60): High Desert 5, STORM 0 - C Ryan Miller (.243) and SS Chase Jensen (.291) were each 2-for-3. Starting LHP Brad Wieck (0-3, 4.62 ERA) allowed four runs on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.

LOW SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (48-50): TinCaps 2, BOWLING GREEN 0 - Three Fort Wayne pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout. Starting LHP Thomas Dorminy (8-7, 3.53) allowed the two hits and a walk with four strikeouts in six innings. Dorminy, 23, the Padres' 10th-round pick in 2014, has allowed one run on 10 hits and five walks with 12 strikeouts over 18 innings in his last three starts and has a 2.44 ERA over his last 10 outs. RHP Colby Blueberg (0.91) struck out two in two perfect innings. RHP Yimmi Brasoban (2.75) struck out two in a perfect ninth to get his fourth save. Eighteen-year-olds SS Ruddy Giron (.295) and 2B Luis Urias (.365) each scored a run without getting a hit. Giron drew a walk and Urias was hit by a pitch and stole a base.

SHORT-SEASON SINGLE-A TRI-CITY (22-15): Dust Devils 5-4, VANCOUVER 4-2 - Tri-City moved into a tie for the Northwest League's North division with the doubleheader sweep. OF Jose Carlos Urena (.281) was 2-for-2 in the two games with a double, a stolen base, three walks, a RBI and a run scored in the doubleheader. CF Rod Boykin (.254) was 2-for-6 with a double, a walk, a RBI and two runs scored. 1B Ty France (.284) was 2-for-6 with a walk, a RBI and a run. SS Peter Van Gansen (.313) was 2-for-6 with two walks and two runs scored. SS Kobie Tidwell (.289) was 1-for-4 with two walks, two RBIs and a run scored. RF Mason Smith (.198) was 2-for-7 with a double, a RBI and a run.

RHP Walker Lockett (2.91 ERA) started the first game and allowed three runs on five hits in five innings. RHP Phil Maton (2-1, 1.56) allowed a hit and a walk with three strikeouts in 1 2/3 scoreless innings. RHP Luis Hernandez (3.78) issued a walk with a strikeout in an otherwise perfect inning to get his second save. Starting LHP Jose Castillo (3.86 ERA) allowed two runs on two hits and three walks with four strikeouts in four innings in the second game. LHP Jerry Keel (2-0, 2.76) allowed a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in two innings. RHP Corey Kimber (1.35) allowed a hit with a walk in the scoreless seventh to pick up his fourth save.

ARIZONA ROOKIE PADRES (12-16): A's 8, PADRES 2 - CF Josh Magee (.198) was 2-for-4 with a RBI. DH Ronaldo Contreras (.238) was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Starting RHP Emmanuel Ramirez (4-2, 2.48 ERA) allowed seven runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts in five innings. LHP Will Headean (4.80) struck out two in two perfect innings. RHO Elliott Ashbeck (4.41) allowed a run on three hits with a strikeout in two innings.

DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE PADRES (21-27): Padres 7, BLUE JAYS 3 - LF Luis Asuncion (.243) was 2-for-3 with a RBI and two walks. CF Jose Sotillo (.224) was 2-for-5 with a run scored. LHP Eisler Cordero (2-1, 4.88 ERA) issued two walks with three strikeouts in four hitless innings.
