Rehab assignments on tap for Shuck, Bonifacio

CHICAGO -- White Sox outfielder J.B. Shuck has moved closer to starting an injury rehabilitation assignment to test his strained left hamstring, while utility infielder/outfielder Emilio Bonifacio began his assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.

Bonifacio was placed on the disabled list with a strained left oblique on July 29.

"We're happy with where they're at, at this point," said White Sox manager Robin Ventura. "Once they go out and start playing, we're going to get a better idea of what they can do.

"It's one thing to go out here and run around a little bit. But once you play, it's a whole lot different as far as reacting, especially with a hamstring."

Shuck has been running the last couple of days, trying to get up as close to top speed as he possibly can.

"Today was another step forward," Shuck said. "Every day I get a little bit stronger and get a little bit more explosive on the running. And it's still feeling pretty good."

Trayce Thompson, who started in left field Tuesday against the Angels, replaced Scott Carroll on the active roster, after Carroll replaced Shuck when he went on the disabled list Aug. 1 with the White Sox in need of bullpen depth. Shuck was hitting .278 with six doubles and 11 RBIs at the time of the injury, having found a groove as the White Sox primary bat off the bench.

"Yeah, it's unfortunate. You never want to spend time on the DL, but it happens," Shuck said. "I'm not going to worry about it. As soon as I get healthy, I'm going to get back out there, and this staff here will help me get back into my groove as soon as I can."
