J.D. Martinez, Jimmy Paredes, Trevor Crowe to join big club

HOUSTON, TX -- Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced the following roster moves today: outfielder Trevor Crowe has been selected from Triple A Oklahoma City; outfielder J.D. Martinez has been reinstated from the Disabled List; infielder/outfielder Jimmy Paredes has been recalled from OKC; outfielders Rick Ankiel and Fernando Martinez have been designated for assignment; infielder Brandon Laird has been optioned to OKC.

Crowe, Martinez and Paredes will join the Astros Major League club tomorrow, prior to the 7:10 p.m. game vs. the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Minute Maid Park.

J.D. Martinez, 25, who had been on the DL since April 20 due to a right knee sprain, hit .300 (6x20) in five games while on a rehab assignment at Corpus Christi (AA) with a home run, five RBI and a .550 slugging pct. He appeared in 14 games (12 starts) for the Astros prior to going on the DL.

Through yesterday, Crowe was hitting .300 (33x110) in 29 games at OKC with two homers, 14 RBI and a club-best 11 stolen bases, which ranked second in the Pacific Coast League. A former first-round selection of the Cleveland Indians, Crowe, who has appeared in 205 Major League games, was signed by the Astros as a minor league free agent during the offseason.

Paredes, 24, entered today hitting a club-best .376 (41x109) in 29 games at OKC, which ranked 5th in the PCL. His 1.040 OPS was 7th in the league. Paredes, who has made starts at third base and in right field for the RedHawks this season, has also posted a .444 on-base-pct., drawing 14 walks in 29 games. He drew 22 walks in 124 games for the RedHawks in 2012.

For the Astros this season, Ankiel hit .194 in 25 games with five home runs and 11 RBI, Laird hit .200 in 11 games with two homers and five RBI and Fernando Martinez hit .182 with a homer and three RBI in 11 games.
