Barton receives Scout of the Year Award

Reds cross checker Jeff Barton has been named this year's recipient of the Scout of the Year Award for the West Region, which honors a lifetime of scouting excellence.

Barton received the most votes in the history of the award, with which he will be honored at a banquet at this year's Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tenn.

Among the most notable players Barton scouted was Trevor Hoffman, a collegiate infielder who he thought could convert to pitcher or catcher. He also had influence in Cincinnati drafting and signing current Reds Joey Votto, Michael Lorenzen, Robert Stephenson, Jon Moscot and Tony Cingrani, along with former Reds Justin Turner, Mike Leake and Brad Boxberger.
