Adduci still sidelined; Profar resumes throwing

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers are still without outfielder Jim Adduci, who has not fully recovered from head and neck injuries sustained in an Aug. 28 game against the Astros.

Adduci is eligible to come off the seven-day concussion disabled list, but is still experiencing headaches and stiffness in the neck.

"He's still not 100 percent with the concussion symptoms," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. "With what we have learned in the last 12-18 months, we're taking that seriously. He's here and trying to make progress but until he's clear of the soreness in his neck and clear in his head, we're not going to put him back on the field."

Adduci, playing right field at the time, sustained his injuries making a running catch in foul territory and then falling over second baseman Rougned Odor. Adduci banged the back of his head as he fell hard on the warning track and then slid head-first into the padded wall in front of the stands.

Other injuries news: • Infielder Jurickson Profar, who has been sidelined all year with a torn muscle in his right shoulder, has resumed a throwing program and is hoping to start swinging a bat next week. The Rangers are hoping he can play in the Arizona Fall League that starts play in October.

• The Rangers are waiting to see if pitcher Miles Mikolas can start on Thursday against the Angels. Until then, the Rangers are undecided. Mikolas remains sidelined with right shoulder fatigue and had an injection on Thursday. Scott Baker or Robbie Ross Jr. could make that start if Mikolas is still unavailable.

• Catcher Robinson Chirinos remains sidelined with stiffness in his neck but could return to the lineup as early as Sunday.
