Joc, the robber: Rookie takes away a homer

LOS ANGELES -- In the top of the third inning of the Dodgers' 7-6 win over the D-backs on Wednesday night, rookie center fielder Joc Pederson showed he's much more than an offensive weapon with an amazing catch.

With runners on first and second and the D-backs trying to erase the Dodgers' three-run lead, Yasmany Tomas hit a 1-0 changeup from Dodgers lefty Brett Anderson to deep center. Pederson tracked the ball all the way and timed his leap to snag the ball just as it went over the wall to take away a home run.

"You have a good idea [where you're at], you have to time it up, time your jump," Pederson said. "But this is the first home run I've ever robbed, so maybe I'm not the one to ask."

The rookie's play was crucial, as the next batter, Aaron Hill, grounded into an inning-ending double play.

"Joc made an incredible play to make sure I didn't blow the lead entirely," Anderson said.
