Berrios tosses two-hitter for Chattanooga

Twins' No. 4 prospect takes over MiLB strikeout lead with eight, drops ERA to 2.60

Jose Berrios is heating up with the weather. Berrios, the No. 32 prospect according to MLBPipeline, threw a complete-game two-hit shutout for Double-A Chattanooga in a 3-0 victory over Birmingham on Wednesday. Berrios is now 4-1 on the season with a 2.60 ERA and 53 strikeouts -- most in the Minors.

Berrios, the fourth-ranked prospect in Minnesota's organization, walked two batters and gave up two singles in the shutout win. The 20-year-old has given up four home runs in six starts this season, but he has more than three times as many strikeouts (53) as he has walks (15).

Berrios, the 32nd overall selection in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, made eight starts at Double-A and one start for Triple-A Rochester last season. He's posted a 25-16 record and a 2.99 ERA in 62 appearances at the Minor League level and has not yet made his Major League debut.
