Donaldson, Price share AL weekly honor

After helping draw the Blue Jays closer to first place in the American League East race, Toronto teammates Josh Donaldson and David Price were named AL co-Players of the Week on Monday.

Donaldson led the AL in home runs (five), runs scored (nine), total bases (27) and extra-base hits (seven) while batting .385 (10-for-26) with two doubles and eight RBIs over seven games. Price went 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 15 innings in his first two starts with the club since being acquired from Detroit in a trade.

It is Price's first career weekly honor and Donaldson's third. His last Player of the Week Award was won on May 31.

Donaldson recorded a hit and a run in each of the Blue Jays' games last week, as the club went a perfect 7-0 in that stretch. On Friday against the Yankees, he hit his career-high 30th homer of the year, and his 29 homers while playing third base this season are the most by any Toronto third baseman since Troy Glaus hit 33 in 2006.

Price threw eight innings of one-run ball in his first start with the Blue Jays while striking out 11 -- the most ever by a pitcher making his Toronto debut (passing Roger Clemens' nine in 1997). In his second start of the week on Saturday, Price threw seven shutout innings to improve to 5-0 with a 1.85 ERA in his past seven starts at Yankee Stadium.
