Harrison remains out of Bucs' lineup with ailing ankle

MIAMI -- Pirates manager Clint Hurdle had two potential lineups ready to face the Marlins on Friday night. One included utility man Josh Harrison and one did not.

Hurdle ended up going without Harrison for the second straight day. The status of the 26-year-old is still unclear.

Hurdle hinted before the game that Harrison had the potential to start at second base Friday, depending on how well he did in running drills. But by the time Hurdle posted the lineup, Harrison's name was left on the bench.

Harrison left Wednesday's game with discomfort in his left ankle in the third inning, but he actually sustained the injury in the first frame. After drawing a walk, he ran toward second thinking a lineout from Gregory Polanco had the chance to fall for a hit. When he had to double back to first base, Harrison said, "I turned the ankle, pretty badly."

He turned his ankle again on a play in the next inning, when he tried and failed to tag out a runner between first and second. Harrison did, at least, manage to get a runner at first.

Although Harrison's not expected to go on the disabled list, without him in the lineup, the Pirates are missing one of their best right-handed hitters. He is batting .277/.328/.471 with four homers and 12 RBIs against righties this season.
