Royals cancel Tuesday's Caravan event due to snow

KANSAS CITY -- With the Missouri-Kansas area bracing for what's forecast to be a major snowfall, the last leg of the Royals Caravan scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled.

The "Salute to the Military" trip to Manhattan, Kan., and Ft. Riley, Kan., was to feature former Royals stars George Brett and John Mayberry and broadcaster Denny Matthews visiting with future and current members of the military.

During the previous legs of the Caravan, the Royals teamed with the USO to collect items for military members overseas and returning from duty. In addition, Royals Charities is donating $10,000 to the USO in recognition of "Thank You" cards written by fans to the military during the Caravan's stops in 18 Midwest communities last week.

Those trips led into the Royals FanFest, which drew more than 11,000 to Bartle Hall in downtown Kansas City last Friday and Saturday.
