Davis developed his competitiveness in Florida

Wade Davis, RP, Royals

Hometown: Lake Wales, Fla.

Davis joins Billy Butler and Eric Hosmer as the Royals' Sunshine State representatives.

The right-handed reliever started his baseball career at Lake Wales High School. It was here that Davis developed his fierce competitiveness that has allowed him to set the Royals' single-season strikeout record for relievers in 2014. Jasone DeWitt, his high school coach, recalled this competitive nature in an article featured in Tampa Bay Online.

"I'll go back to his senior year in the district tournament against Bartow High School. He walked into my classroom during lunch -- we would discuss how we were going to pitch guys and so on -- and he had that look," DeWitt said.

In 2009, Davis became the third Lake Wales graduate to reach MLB, joining Cleatus Davidson (1999) and Pat Porders (1988-2005).

Baseball runs in the Davis family, as his second-cousin Jody played 10 seasons with the Cubs and Braves.
