Yost wins challenge on tag play at first base

Taveras ruled out, Moustakas saved from error with call overturned

ST. LOUIS -- The Royals filed their 13th instant-replay challenge in the third inning Tuesday night and won for the eighth time.

The Cardinals' Oscar Taveras was ruled safe when third baseman Mike Moustakas' throw pulled first baseman Eric Hosmer off the bag. Hosmer tagged Taveras as he went past, but umpire Tripp Gibson ruled Taveras was safe.

Manager Ned Yost challenged and the call was overturned. Taveras was the second out and Moustakas was saved an error on the throw. It took 2:05 for New York replay central to sort it out.

After the Royals notched an 8-7 victory, Yost pointed out how important it was to win that challenge.

"It did save us a run there. I think [Jhonny] Peralta came up and hit a double in the next at-bat," Yost said.

"But our replay analyst [Bill Duplissea] is as good as they come. That's all Billy, that's not me. I sit there and wait for a phone call. I can't tell from where I'm standing."
