Kennedy good to go for Saturday's start vs. Cubs

ARLINGTON -- After being scratched from Monday's start with a laceration in his right index finger, Ian Kennedy is expected to make his next scheduled start Saturday against the Cubs.

Kennedy hurt his finger while cleaning a knife at home and watched as rookie Tyler Skaggs, the D-backs' top prospect, according to MLB.com, tossed six scoreless inning and picked up his first win this season in a 5-3 victory over the Rangers in the first game of Monday's doubleheader.

"We probably could've made it work, but it was better not to with that doubleheader," Kennedy said. "I'll probably throw tomorrow without the wrap and see how it goes. I'm making sure it's nice and closed every time I go to bed. Whatever the trainers say, I'll do."

Kennedy has been able to throw without any issues and has the finger bandaged when he's not throwing. He said he feels fine, but the cut is limiting the way he throws his curveball.

"The only thing that really bothered me was spinning on my knuckle curve," Kennedy said. "It would just split open. I haven't been able to throw any curveballs, but my fastball has been good in the bullpens."

Kennedy is 2-3 with a 4.70 ERA this year, striking out 50 and walking 23 in 61 1/3 innings. He won't be touching any knives anytime soon.

"From now on, [my wife's] doing everything, cleaning up the knives and everything," Kennedy said. "You should've seen it when I left. There were dishes everywhere."
