Kratz injures knee in loss to Brewers

MILWAUKEE -- Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said Erik Kratz felt his left knee pop on his way to first base in the ninth inning of Saturday night's 4-3 loss at Miller Park.

Kratz later needed crutches to make his way through the clubhouse.

"It's not good," Manuel said. "It doesn't look good."

The Phillies said they will not know more about Kratz's injury until Sunday, but it is safe to say he will miss time because of the injury. Humberto Quintero is expected to start Sunday's series finale against the Brewers. The team's emergency catcher is Kevin Frandsen, if the Phillies cannot get a second catcher to the ballpark by game time.

Kratz will be missed. He is second on the team with eight home runs and is fifth among all catchers in baseball in home runs.

Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz is on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring. He said recently he thought he could head to Clearwater, Fla., as early as Monday to begin a rehab assignment, but that is not official.
