Kendrick on track for Tuesday return from DL

Righty tabbed for Rockies' doubleheader with D-backs

PITTSBURGH -- Feeling healthy after throwing all his pitches in a 30-pitch side session, Rockies right-hander Kyle Kendrick will return to the rotation to start one of the doubleheader games Tuesday against the D-backs. Manager Walt Weiss said he is not sure which game.

Kendrick (4-12, 6.43 ERA in 21 starts) is recovering from right shoulder inflammation that bothered him for a couple of months before he finally went on the disabled list in early August. Kendrick hopes for a healthy and more productive finish.

"I threw a little more pitches to get my stamina up, and it felt good," Kendrick said. "I'm ready for my next outing.

"I felt good in the simulated game in Atlanta [on Tuesday], and this is my first time after that and felt fine. I'm looking forward to getting back out there. I'm looking forward to finishing strong the last month."

The Rockies signed him for one year and $5.5 million to provide experience, but he's struggled with giving up homers and then with health.

Worth noting

• Weiss also said lefty reliever Boone Logan, on the disabled list with left elbow inflammation, threw a simulated game Friday and is nearing a return.

• First baseman Justin Morneau, coming back from a cervical neck strain and concussion symptoms, went 1-for-2 with a single and a strikeout and played four innings defensively Friday night for Double-A New Britain in his first injury rehab game.
