• Norichika Aoki was a last-minute scratch from the Brewers' starting lineup on Tuesday because of a tight left elbow. The Brewers bumped second baseman Rickie Weeks to the leadoff spot and put Schafer in right field.

• Left-hander Tom Gorzelanny will start Friday against Arizona, Roenicke announced. The choice was between Gorzelanny and right-hander Donovan Hand. Gorzelanny made more sense, because it allowed the Brewers to use Hand out of the bullpen if needed in the preceding days. Gorzelanny, who last started on Sunday, would not have been available in relief until Thursday in Arizona.

• Catcher Jonathan Lucroy will be the regular cleanup hitter with Aramis Ramirez on the disabled list, said Roenicke, citing Lucroy's patience and knack for hitting the ball to the opposite field.

"That kind of guy usually drives in more runs," Roenicke said.
