• The Brewers have promoted Mark Dewey from pitching coach at Class A Advanced Brevard County to be assistant roving pitching coach, joining Rick Tomlin in that role. With 80-plus pitchers in the system, general manager Doug Melvin said two coordinators working in concert would help the club "have better focus on the pitching side of things."

• Former first-round Draft pick Mark Rogers was among Milwaukee's Minor Leaguers who officially became free agents on Monday. Rogers, 28 in January, showed great promise in the Major Leagues during the second half of 2012 and hoped to compete for a spot in the Brewers' 2013 Opening Day pitching rotation, but he was derailed by the return of shoulder issues. He was limited to 12 appearances for three different affiliates.

• Other notable Minor League free agents include former Top 20 prospect Santo Manzanillo, a right-hander who has struggled with shoulder woes since a November 2011 auto accident; right-hander Josh Ravin, who was just claimed off waivers from the Reds in late September but was subsequently removed from Milwaukee's 40-man roster; and outfielder Brock Kjeldgaard, who hit 24 home runs with 70 RBIs at Huntsville in 2013.

Rounding out Monday's list were: pitchers Frankie De La Cruz, Tim Dillard, Zach Kroenke, Aaron Laffey, Johnnie Lowe, Jesus Sanchez, R.J. Seidel and Travis Webb; infielders Ozzie Chavez and Blake Davis; outfielder Rene Tosoni; catcher Anderson De La Rosa; and super-utility man Micah Owings.
