• Saturday marked the 40th anniversary of Hall of Famer Robin Yount's Major League debut as an 18-year-old at County Stadium against the Red Sox. Yount worked a second-inning walk from Luis Tiant in his first plate appearance, flied out in the fifth inning and then was replaced by a pinch-hitter. He wouldn't record his first hit until his fifth game.

• Brewers left fielder Khris Davis banged his first hit of the season off Fenway Park's Green Monster on Friday, and on Saturday afternoon he left another mark.

"[Carlos] Gomez took me back there [on Friday] and wanted me to sign it, but they didn't have a Sharpie," Davis said. "So I'm going to take one out there today and get my signature on it."

Playing the outfield in front of the Monster, Davis said, "is special, just because all of the great ones who have played left field here. Like Manny [Ramirez], I loved watching Manny play back in the day. He had his hiccups, but I loved him."

Martin Maldonado was the starting catcher for right-hander Wily Peralta's season debut Saturday, reprising the battery from the second half of last season. But the pairing will not be as strict in 2014, Roenicke reiterated. He wants to be able to rest Lucroy when it makes the most sense, not when it coincides with Peralta's day to pitch.
