• Left fielder Khris Davis, a late scratch Monday because of flu-like symptoms, was rehydrated and feeling much better Tuesday morning so he returned to the starting lineup. A bug is going around the Brewers clubhouse lately, but Davis believes the problem was something he ate.
• With Martin Maldonado out of action due to his five-game suspension for his part in Sunday's brawl with the Pirates, the Brewers were down to one active catcher, Jonathan Lucroy. But utility man Elian Herrera began his professional career with the Dodgers as a catcher a decade ago, and is considered a capable backup. Infielder Jeff Bianchi also has dabbled catching bullpens over the past two years, and could play the position in an emergency.
"I'd like to say I could hold my own," Bianchi said. "I'm obviously not Lucroy or Maldonado back there, but hopefully I can just catch, receive."
