Lombo looking to get comfortable at plate

SAN DIEGO -- In his last 21 games, Nationals infielder Steve Lombardozzi is 7-for-53 (.132). Last year, he was one of the most consistent hitters on the team. It helped that he played often and managed to finish eighth among rookies with 105 hits. Lombardozzi said he is currently trying to get comfortable at the plate.

"I'm trying to get my timing right and not trying to do too much," he said "It's a combination of getting some at-bats finally. I'm getting a chance to play now. I haven't done nearly as well as I've liked to. I'm working on it. I'm starting to feel better."

Lombo, who got the start at second base on Sunday against the Padres, showed signs of life at the plate, going 1-for-3 with an RBI in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Padres. He drove in Kurt Suzuki for the tying run in the sixth inning with a single.
