Duda, Syndergaard share NL Player of Week nod

MIAMI -- Fresh off one of the most memorable homestands in recent franchise history, a pair of Mets split National League Player of the Week honors. First baseman Lucas Duda and starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard shared the nod for pacing the Mets on both sides of the field.

The last pair of Mets to share NL Player of the Week honors were David Wright and Jose Reyes in June 2006.

Slumping badly as recently as eight days ago, Duda turned it around to become just the third player in Major League history to hit nine home runs in an eight-day span, going 9-for-19 with seven of those home runs in the week ending Sunday. Yet his most impactful hit may have been one of the two that did not go over the fence: a go-ahead RBI double in the eighth inning of Saturday's 3-2 win over the Nationals. The Mets went on to sweep that three-game series, thanks in large part to Duda's double and three home runs.

Syndergaard, who was also a leading candidate for NL Rookie of the Month in July, went 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 16 innings last week. His 100 strikeouts on the season rank fourth in Mets history for any pitcher through his first 15 career games, trailing only Dwight Gooden (113), Matt Harvey (109) and Nolan Ryan (106).

The Mets begin a three-game series on Monday in Miami.
