Machado out again, but O's optimistic

BALTIMORE -- Manny Machado (right groin stiffness) was out of the lineup for the second consecutive game on Saturday afternoon, although the Orioles are optimistic he could be available to them soon.

"Potentially available today," manager Buck Showalter said of using Machado off the bench. "Going to move around a little bit between now and gametime. See where we are with it. But I feel good that we may have caught this in the infancy, so to speak, and he'll be a full-go player hopefully here shortly."

Machado was a little better on Saturday than the previous day, and the O's are cautiously hopeful it's not a disabled list situation for the 21-year-old All-Star. Still, given Machado's uncertainty, the Orioles recalled infielder Steve Lombardozzi from Triple-A Norfolk.

Machado, who suffered the injury on a fourth-inning slide Thursday night, missed the first month of the season in rehabbing back from knee surgery, and he was starting to look better at the plate before his groin injury. Without him, the Orioles have used Ryan Flaherty at third base and Jonathan Schoop at second.
