Mariners recall INF Chris Taylor from AAA Tacoma

Utility infielder/outfielder Willie Bloomquist designated for assignment

OAKLAND, Calif. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced the following roster moves prior to tonight's game vs. the Oakland Athletics:

·       Chris Taylor, INF, recalled from AAA Tacoma

·       Willie Bloomquist, UTL, designated for assignment

Taylor, 24, will wear #1 and will be active for tonight's series opener vs. the Oakland Athletics at O.co Coliseum (7:07 pm).

This will be Taylor's second stint with the Mariners this season, batting .159 (10x63) in 20 games from May 4-June 1. In 48 games with AAA Tacoma he hit .289 (56x194) with 9 doubles, 4 triples, 2 home runs, 16 RBI and was 13-for-17 stealing bases. In 47 games in the infield (SS - 36, 2B - 11) he made 6 errors in 200 total chances. In 27 games since returning to the Rainiers Taylor has hit .272 (31x114) with 4 doubles, 3 triples and recorded 7 stolen bases (.352 on-base pct).

Bloomquist, 37, has appeared in 35 games for the Mariners this season at 6 different positions: SS-7 G/5 GS, 1B-3 G/3 GS, LF-5 G/3 GS, 3B-5 G/2 GS, 2B-8 G/2 GS, RF- 2 G/1 GS. He is batting .159 (11x69) with 1 doubles and 4 RBI. This is Bloomquist's 14th Major League season and second stint with the Mariners. The Port Orchard native has played in 622 games with Seattle (21st-most in club history) since making his Major League debut in 2002.
