Mariners win challenge on close play at first

TORONTO -- Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon successfully challenged a safe call at first on an infield grounder by Jose Reyes in the third inning of Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays, with replay officials overturning the play and calling Reyes out.

With the Mariners leading, 2-1, Reyes hit a grounder to shortstop Brad Miller, which he bobbled before firing to first baseman Logan Morrison just in time to nip Reyes. First-base umpire Marvin Hudson signaled safe, but Seattle challenged the play and a quick review rewarded that decision with the second out of a 1-2-3 inning for Felix Hernandez.

It was the 32nd challenge by McClendon this season and 18 of those plays have been overturned.
