Marlins acquire Jarred Cosart from Houston Astros

Also acquire Kiké Hernandez, Austin Wates in Six-Player Trade

MIAMI - The Marlins today acquired RHP Jarred Cosart, INF/OF Kiké Hernandez and OF Austin Wates from the Houston Astros in exchange for INF Colin Moran, OF Jake Marisnick, RHP Francis Martes and Miami's 2015 Competitive Balance draft pick. The announcement was made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.

Cosart, 24, was 9-7 with a 4.41 ERA (116.1 IP/57 ER) in 20 starts for the Astros this season, with 75 strikeouts, and is now 10-8, 3.57 in 30 career Major League starts. The League City, Texas native made his Major League debut with Houston on July 12, 2013, and was named the Astros' 2013 Rookie of the Year by the Houston Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America after going 1-1, 1.95 (60.0/13) last year.

Hernandez, 22, made his Major League debut with the Astros on July 1 of this season, going 2x2 with a double and RBI against Seattle, and batted .284 (23x81) with four doubles, two triples, a home run and eight RBI in 24 games for Houston. A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Hernandez also appeared in 67 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, batting .337 (89x264) with 17 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 31 RBI.

Wates, 25, appeared in 74 games for Oklahoma City this season, batting .299 (84x281) with 11 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 30 RBI and 31 stolen bases (35 attempts). Wates, a native of Richmond, Virginia who attended Virginia Tech University, was a third-round draft pick by the Astros in 2010, and has 98 steals in five-plus Minor League seasons.

Cosart and Hernandez will join the Marlins tomorrow, while Wates will be assigned to Triple-A New Orleans.
