Hechavarria strains hamstring, day to day

ATLANTA -- Marlins shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria, the lone regular from the Opening Day lineup to not miss time this season due to injury or demotion, was replaced in the second inning of theMarlins' 7-3 victoryagainst the Braves at Turner Field on Wednesday after straining his left hamstring on a bunt single. The club said he was day to day.

After running past the first-base bag, Hechavarria grabbed the back of his left leg. He tried to stretch it out, testing to see if he could continue, but after being checked by manager Dan Jennings and trainer Sean Cunningham, he was replaced by Miguel Rojas.

Hechavarria said his condition is more of a cramp, and he isn't concerned that it will be a lingering issue.

Jennings also called it a cramp.

"Tomorrow, the day off will be good," Jennings said. "We'll have a better read on it Friday. Hopefully, it was just a cramp and we got him out early enough before it materialized into anything."

After completing a 4-2 road trip, the Marlins capped a stretch of 20 straight days of playing games. The club is off Thursday before taking on the Mets on Friday at Marlins Park.

Hechavarria, 26, has been Miami's most durable player. He leads the team in games played (130) and is second in at-bats (470). Hechavarria, who is batting .281, is having a Gold Glove-caliber season.

It's been hard to get him out of the lineup.

But the Marlins were able to give him a one-inning breather in Tuesday's 7-1 win, as he was replaced after eight innings.

The Marlins and Braves had a 12:10 p.m. ET start on Wednesday, and Hechavarria had to test his legs early. He dropped a bunt with Marcell Ozuna on first, and as he sprinted down the line, he pulled up. The bunt resulted in a single after catcher Christian Bethancourt was unable to field it cleanly.
