Marlins haven't set cutoff point for Fernandez

KANSAS CITY -- Before rookie Jose Fernandez took the mound on Tuesday against the Royals, Marlins manager Mike Redmond reaffirmed that the organization has not set a specific time for shutting down the All-Star right-hander.

"We've talked about it," Redmond said. "He's still got a ways. We haven't settled exactly on a date yet."

Redmond mentioned somewhere around early September as a general time frame.

"We'll continue to monitor how he feels and his innings," Redmond said.

Fernandez began Tuesday's game having worked 132 2/3 innings.
