Marlins ink veteran Tejada to Minor League deal

The Marlins signed veteran infielder Miguel Tejada to a Minor League contract, though he will have to wait out the remainder of his 105-game suspension for amphetamines before he can participate in Major League games.

The Marlins announced the deal on Monday, and Tejada will report to Class A Advanced Jupiter.

Tejada, 39, last played in the big leagues for the Royals in 2013, seeing time in 53 games and batting .288 with three homers and 20 RBIs.

Tejada is a six-time All-Star who finished first in the 2002 American League Most Valuable Player Award voting while with the A's.

According to ESPNDeportes.com, Tejada -- who has tested positive three times for amphetamines, most recently while with Kansas City -- will be eligible to return to the big leagues after May 31.
