Bour proving to be quite a tough out at the dish

MIAMI -- While much of the Marlins' offense didn't show up in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the D-backs at Marlins Park, Miami first baseman Justin Bour didn't go down quietly.

Arizona starter Chase Anderson stifled the Marlins as he allowed one run on four hits over eight-plus innings. However, Bour came on in a double-switch in the sixth inning and collected two of those hits.

Bour's first hit was a sixth-inning double to the left-field wall, while his second hit was a leadoff single in the ninth. He then scored the Marlins' lone run. With the 2-for-2 night, the 6-foot-4, 250-pound left-handed hitter raised his batting average to .438 (14-for-32).

"He certainly is off to a nice start," Marlins manager Dan Jennings said.

It marked the 26-year-old Bour's third multihit game of the season. On Sunday, he broke up Atlanta starter Shelby Miller's no-hitter with two outs in the ninth inning of Miami's 6-0 loss.

While Bour has been mostly relegated to backup duties behind starting first baseman Michael Morse, Jennings indicated that Bour may be forcing his hand.

"He's filled the role of coming off the bench and he's filled the role of being in double-switches," Jennings said. "When he's had opportunities to play first base, he's done a nice job."

Morse has struggled this season, as he's hitting .206 with just two home runs in 35 games. He went 0-for-2 on Wednesday, although one of his outs was a hard-hit line drive to right field.
