Stanton belts one into visitors' bullpen in Philly

PHILADELPHIA -- With the Marlins down a pair of runs to the Phillies in the fourth inning of Tuesday night's 7-3 loss, right fielder Giancarlo Stanton mashed a 449-foot solo homer into the visitors' bullpen -- which is above the home bullpen -- at Citizens Bank Park.

Stanton hit a 3-2 cutter from Phillies starter Jerome Williams to right-center field to pull the Marlins within 2-1 with his third home run of the season. Stanton has struggled over the first 13 games of the season, as he entered the night hitting .239 with 11 RBIs, but he has hit over .300 on the current 10-game road trip.

Stanton's home run left his bat at 113 mph, compared to the 109.5-mph homer by Bryce Harper on Saturday that made highlight reels after it hit the wall beyond the grass lawn in center field of Nationals Park.

"When he made contact with the ball, I didn't know it was going to go," Williams said of Stanton's homer. "Then when the ball passed me probably 100 mph, then I saw it go, and I turned around and I was like, 'Oh boy, that's a big one.' You give them up, you give them up big. He's a good hitter, a strong kid and he took advantage of that pitch."
