Marlins Winter Warm Up set for Saturday

Individual game tickets on sale at 10 a.m. ET online and at Marlins Park

MIAMI -- Major League Baseball will be front and center when Marlins Park opens on Saturday for the MetroPCS Miami Marlins Winter Warm Up.

Entrance is free, and it marks the first day individual game tickets go on sale at the ballpark, as well as marlins.com and marlinsbeisbol.com at 10 a.m. ET. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The theme of the day will be the game itself. Marlins senior vice president of marketing Sean Flynn says the Warm Up will be centered around promoting the game more than some of the side attractions and entertainment features of the past.

"There will be some of the same features we've had in the past with Fan Fest, but we've changed this to more of a baseball-focused event," Flynn said. "There will still be some of those [attractions] for kids that we are setting up on the West Plaza. Again, it is more baseball-focused. We're bringing in a high school game."

Winter Warm Up activities will also include the High School Field of Dreams Challenge at 11 a.m., featuring Archbishop McCarthy against Gulliver Academy.

As part of the day, there will be tours of Marlins Park, and autograph and photo sessions with the players. Unlike previous years, there will not be any town hall-style meetings, where fans directly address players and team management.

All current full-season, half-season and 21-game mini-plan holders will be invited to exclusive season-ticket-holder events during the day.

Those looking to attend Opening Night at Marlins Park will have extra incentive. On Saturday only, fans can get $10 off tickets for the April 8 home opener at 7:10 p.m. ET against the Braves.

Winter Warm Up concludes Marlins Ayudan Week 2013, a week where players and team officials traveled South Florida promoting the start of big league baseball.

The Marlins will certainly have a new look in 2013, as the squad has gotten younger. The organization is hoping new manager Mike Redmond provides leadership and direction to an inexperienced group.

Spring Training begins for the Marlins with pitchers' and catchers' workouts on Tuesday at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Fla. Full-squad workouts get under way on Feb. 15. The 2013 season opens on April 1 with Miami playing at Washington.

This marks Miami's second season in Marlins Park, a colorful 37,000-seat retractable-roof building in the Little Havana section of Miami.

From March 12-16, Marlins Park will be the site of a second round for the World Baseball Classic. On Saturday, fans can purchase tickets for the Classic. During the day, those attending are encouraged to visit the World Baseball Classic display.

Fans on Saturday can sit in and select their seats for the 2013 season through a variety of season-ticket plans, including full-season, 40-game half-season and 21-game mini plans.
