Cain throws 55 pitches in first rehab start
Peavy slated to pitch for Triple-A on Thursday
NEW YORK -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy did not have an exact timetable for when Jake Peavy or Matt Cain would return from the disabled list, but he did lay out a tentative plan Tuesday for when both pitchers could come back.
Cain threw 55 pitches in his first Minor League rehab start Tuesday night for Double-A Richmond and allowed two runs on three hits in 3 2/3 innings with a walk and two strikeouts.
If Cain (flexor tendon) comes away from that start without feeling any pain, he will make his next start for Triple-A Sacramento. Bochy said he expects Cain to complete at least three Minor League starts before he returns to the Majors, where he has not pitched since June 9, 2014.
After a successful bullpen session Monday, Peavy is scheduled to pitch for Sacramento on Thursday and is expected to throw about 85 pitches.
The Giants expect Peavy (back) to receive at least one more start after Thursday before activating him from the disabled list.
