Blue Jays claim Dominguez, designate Dorn

TORONTO -- The Blue Jays claimed third baseman Matt Dominguez off waivers from the Brewers on Sunday afternoon, and infielder/outfielder Danny Dorn was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

Dominguez has spent parts of four seasons in the big leagues, but he has yet to appear in a Major League game this season. In 2015, he has been limited to 117 games in Triple-A, where he has hit .269 with 10 homers, 56 RBIs and a .720 OPS.

The 26-year-old is a former top prospect of the Marlins after he was taken 12th overall in the 2007 Draft. Prior to the '09 season, he was ranked the 64th-best prospect in baseball according to Baseball America, but Dominguez has yet to tap into that full potential.

Dominguez's best season came in 2013, when he hit 21 homers with 77 RBIs and a .690 OPS for the Astros. There's plenty of power there, but he also struck out 96 times in 543 at-bats that season with an additional 125 strikeouts in 564 at-bats the following year.

The slugging infielder will not be eligible for the Blue Jays' postseason roster because he was added to the organization after the Aug. 31 deadline.
