Harvey hopes to begin throwing this month
Coming off October elbow surgery, righty still unlikely to pitch in MLB in 2014
While it remains unlikely Mets ace Matt Harvey will pitch in the Majors this season, he reportedly is making good progress and expects to begin throwing in two weeks.
The New York Post reported that Harvey, coming off Tommy John surgery, is hoping to pick up a ball as soon as Feb. 22.
"I haven't had any setbacks," Harvey told the paper. "I can't wait. Even if it's 10 feet, I just want to pick up a ball. As of right now, I don't see why I wouldn't be able to do that."
According to a report from NBCSports.com, Harvey told WFAN on Friday that his rehab is going "really smoothly" and he intends to report to Spring Training on Feb. 15, along with the other Mets pitchers and catchers.
Harvey had his surgery on Oct. 22. The right-hander was terrific for much of the 2013 season, going 9-5 with a 2.27 ERA in 26 starts.
