Medical update on Johan Santana

FLUSHING, N.Y., August 22, 2012 – The New York Mets announced today that an MRI taken yesterday on Johan Santana revealed inflammation of the lower back. Surgery is not indicated, however, doctors have prescribed rest and medication and Santana has been placed on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to August 18. He is not expected to pitch the rest of the season.
