Melvin ejected from matchup with Rangers

OAKLAND -- A's manager Bob Melvin was ejected from Tuesday night's 6-5 loss to the Rangers in 10 innings after arguing a close play on Daric Barton's groundout that ended the eighth with the game tied.

With two outs and a runner on first base in a 4-4 contest, Barton grounded the ball to shortstop Elvis Andrus, who took his time throwing to first baseman Mitch Moreland. Replays indicate that Barton may have beaten the throw, but that's not what first-base umpire D.J. Reyburn saw, calling Barton out.

Melvin immediately raced from the dugout and, after a brief exchange with Reyburn, was ejected.

"I probably deserved to go. Yeah, I did," Melvin said. "I thought for sure from where I was that he was safe, and it wasn't the case. I think it was very close, but it looked like he was out and he got the call right. I deserved to be thrown out."

It was the third ejection of the season for the A's manager.
