Mets' K's mean 66 percent savings on tickets
NEW YORK -- This week, Mets fans have more reason than usual to cheer for strikeouts.
Thanks to the 66 strikeouts Mets pitchers recorded during last week's seven-game road trip, fans can save up to 66 percent on select tickets for this week's homestand as part of the club's Strikeouts for Savings promotion.
The Mets discounted tickets 1 percent for every strikeout their pitchers recorded against the Padres and D-backs from June 1-7. Mets starters contributed 53 of those 66 strikeouts, with Jacob deGrom leading the way. deGrom earned a co-National League Player of the Week award after striking out a combined 18 batters in two wins. Noah Syndergaard's record 10-strikeout performance June 2 also went a long way toward saving fans some money.
New York entered play Tuesday tied for eighth in the Majors with 475 strikeouts recorded through 58 games. Mets starters ranked fourth in baseball with 326 punchouts.
The Mets are home for eight straight games starting Tuesday against San Francisco. The Giants are in Queens for three games, followed by the Braves for three. The Mets begin next week with a four-game Interleague series against the Blue Jays. The first two games of that series will be played at Citi Field.
