Syndergaard flashes dominance in promising start
Mets' No. 1 prospect allows unearned run in seven innings after early-season struggles
Right-hander Noah Syndergaard entered the season regarded as one of the best prospects in baseball. He started the Futures Game for the U.S. Team in July at Citi Field and is ranked No. 10 on MLB.com's Top 100 prospects list.
But the Mets' No. 1 prospect hadn't been dominant at the outset of this season, his first at Triple-A Las Vegas.
That all changed Wednesday as Syndergaard delivered his best start of the season and Las Vegas defeated Reno, 6-1.
Syndergaard threw 96 pitches over seven innings, matching the longest start of his career. He struck out a season-high seven batters and allowed only an unearned run on four hits and two walks.
Wednesday's start lowered Syndergaard's ERA to 3.94. He has a 28-to-12 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 32 innings this season.
Some of Syndergaard's early-season struggles may be attributable to the hitter-friendly conditions at Cashman Field, the 51s' home park. Five of his six starts (including Wednesday) have been at home, where the 51s and their opponents combined to average more than 10 runs per game last season.
