Mets place Michael Cuddyer on DL; select Michael Conforto from Binghamton
FLUSHING, N.Y. - New York Mets today announced the club has placed outfielder Michael Cuddyer on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to July 22, with left knee inflammation and selected the contract of outfielder Michael Conforto from Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League. Conforto will wear 30 and will be available for tonight's 7:10 p.m. game vs. Los Angeles-NL. A corresponding move to place Conforto on the 40-man roster will be made later today.
Conforto, 22, is in his first full season in the organization after being selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2014 First Year Player Draft out of Oregon State University. He began this season with St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League, where he hit .283 (52-184) with 12 doubles, seven home runs and 28 RBI in 46 games.
Following a promotion to Binghamton, Conforto has hit .312 (54-173) with 12 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 26 RBI in 45 games for the B-Mets. The Washington native participated in the SiriusXM Futures Game during this year's All-Star festivities. In that game, Conforto went 2-for-2 and also threw out a runner at home plate while starting and playing in leftfield.
In 91 games this year in the minors, Conforto has hit a combined .297 with 24 doubles, three triples, 12 home runs and 54 RBI. For his minor league career, Conforto has played in a total of 133 games and batted .308 (160-520) with 15 home runs and 73 RBI.
During his college career, Conforto was the Pac-12 Freshman of the year in 2012 before being named the conference's Player of the Year in 2013 and again in 2014. During his junior season in Corvallis, Conforto hit .345 with seven home runs and 56 RBI.
