Mets select RHP David Aardsma; option RHP Collin McHugh to Las Vegas

The New York Mets today announced the club selected the contract of righthanded pitcher David Aardsma from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League and optioned righthanded pitcher Collin McHugh to the 51s. In order to make room on the 40-man roster for Aardsma, the Mets moved righthanded pitcher Jeurys Familia to the 60-Day Disabled List. Aardsma will wear #30 and will be available for today's game.

Aardsma, 31, compiled a 1.13 ERA (one earned run/8.0 innings pitched) and three saves in eight games for Las Vegas. He did not record a decision and struck out 11 while walking seven. The 6-3, 205-pound native of Denver, CO opened the season with Miami's Triple-A affiliate, New Orleans (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League, going 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA (four earned runs/14.0 innings) in 10 games. The Marlins released the righthander on May 15. He went to Spring Training with the New York Yankees, but was designated for assignment on March 29. The Mets signed him to a minor league deal on May 20.

Aardsma last appeared in the major leagues in 2012 with the Yankees, pitching one game and allowing a run in one inning. He saved a combined 69 games for the Mariners over the 2009 and 2010 seasons, but underwent elbow ligament replacement surgery in July, 2011. For his career, Aardsma is 13-15 with a 4.22 ERA (125 earned runs/266.2 innings) in 255 games.  

McHugh went 0-1 with a 10.29 ERA (eight earned runs/7.0 innings) in three games, one start, for the Mets.
