Mets sign Cuban catcher Ricardo to Minors deal

NEW YORK -- The Mets announced early Tuesday morning that they have signed Cuban free-agent catcher Lednier Ricardo to a Minor League deal.

Ricardo, 27, was the starting catcher on the Cuban national team from 2012-13. He also played in the Cuban National Series for Camaguey and Cienfuegos from 2007-12, batting .256 with 26 homers and a .691 OPS in 415 games.

In addition, the Mets announced that outfield prospect Brandon Nimmo has a sprained ACL in his left knee, and the team's No. 4-ranked prospect will not resume baseball activities until he is pain-free. Nimmo, the organization's first-round Draft pick in 2011, was batting .297 with a .788 OPS in 34 games for Double-A Binghamton.
