Mets Sign RHP Drew Carpenter

The New York Mets today announced the team signed righthanded pitcher Drew Carpenter to a minor league contract.  He will report to Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League and will be active tonight.

Carpenter, 27, appeared in six games out of the bullpen with Toronto this season, not recording a decision and compiling a 5.00 ERA (five earned runs/9.0 innings) and nine strikeouts.  He also appeared in 21 games, 12 starts, for Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League, going 6-3 with a 3.38 ERA (28 earned runs/74.2 innings).  Carpenter was outrighted by the Blue Jays on August 6, but did not accept the assignment.

The 6-3, 220-pound native of Fairfield, CA, is 1-1 with a 7.56 ERA (28 earned runs/33.1 innings) in 23 games, one start, at the major league level with Philadelphia, San Diego and Toronto.  He made his major league debut in 2008 with the Phillies.
