Mets to open '16 with Interleague Play at KC

Club's first series vs. Nats in May at Citi

WASHINGTON -- In what could be a supercharged matchup of teams coming off playoff berths, the Mets will open their 2016 season April 4 in Kansas City, according to the tentative 2016 schedule that Major League Baseball released on Tuesday.

The Mets will travel to Kansas City (April 4-6), Cleveland (April 15-17) and Detroit (Aug. 5-7) for Interleague matchups, and host the White Sox (May 30-June 1), Royals (June 21-22) and Twins (Sept. 16-18) at Citi Field. That doesn't count a four-game home-and-home Subway Series against the Yankees from Aug. 1-4.

Other home highlights include a Memorial Day weekend series against the Dodgers from May 27-29 and a July 4 matchup against the Marlins. The Mets' first showdown with the Nationals is May 17-19 at Citi.
