Mets' victorious challenge takes Tejada off hook

WASHINGTON -- Not only did the Mets win a replay challenge on Friday, they also wiped an error off the record books.

Manager Terry Collins' successful challenge in the second inning at Nationals Park took an error away from shortstop Ruben Tejada and erased Danny Espinosa from the basepaths.

Leading off the second, Espinosa hit a ground ball to shortstop, where Tejada fielded it and fired high to first. Lucas Duda jumped to catch Tejada's throw, attempting to swipe Espinosa with a tag as he ran by. But first-base umpire Ed Hickox ruled that Duda missed Espinosa, resulting in a throwing error for Tejada.

Collins immediately ran out to challenge, and umpires overturned the call. Replays clearly showed that Duda tagged Espinosa before he reached the bag.

Collins improved to 4-3 on manager challenges this season. The Mets are 7-4 in total on replay reviews.
