No talks on Collins contract 'til after season

NEW YORK -- The Mets will not discuss manager Terry Collins' contract status until after the season, general manager Sandy Alderson said on Monday during a visit to the Fort Hamilton Army base in Brooklyn.

The Mets hold a 2016 club option for the 66-year-old Collins but could offer him a contract extension based on what will almost certainly become his first winning season at the helm. He entered Monday's series opener against the Phillies with a 72-58 record after going 79-82 last season.

Collins, however, has no guarantees for next season should the Mets decide to go in another direction, particularly if they miss the playoffs despite their 5 1/2-game division lead with 32 games remaining.

Collins is 820-836 over 11 managerial seasons with the Astros, Angels and Mets.

Worth noting:
• First baseman Lucas Duda is unlikely to come off the disabled list when he is eligible on Sunday, Collins said. Duda has not swung a bat since landing on the DL last week with a small thoracic disk herniation. Alderson said at the time that he expected Duda to return after 15 days.

David Wright on Sunday played his 1,510th career game at third base. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Wright passed former Yankee Graig Nettles for the most games at that position for any New York team, dating back to 1876.
